On November 10, 2025, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad used a crane to remove K-37 492's boiler. The process took approximately three hours from when the crane arrived on scene, just after 9:00 am, and the time it pulled away, just after 12:30 pm. The boiler, smokebox, and firebox work will take place in Antonito, Colorado. Frame work is expected to take place in Chama, New Mexico. Currently, it is one of five former D&RGW K-36 locomotives operating on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (C&TS) between Chama, NM, and Antonito, CO.
