AMD for ai is still not a thing. They are not there yet. Also, do not fall for the AMD cult that is formed within the reddit. Lots of people deceived by AMDs promises. Rocm has being developed for over 6 years. Amd products still need special attention to make things work. This means that only a subset of ai things will work.

Yep, AMD and Nvidia engineers are now in an arm's race to have the best AI performance. Amd's stable diffusion performance now with directml and ONNX for example is at the same level of performance of Automatic1111 Nvidia when the 4090 doesn't have the Tensor specific optimizations. 20.76 it/s for 7900xtx on Shark, and 21.04 it/s for A1111.

Mar 15, 2024 · There are two things to note here, not only is the AMD Ryzen AI CPU faster than the higher wattage Intel Core Ultra CPU but it also features a slightly slower NPU rated at 10 TOPs versus Intel's Core Ultra chip which has an 11 TOPs SKU. That is not even comparing the 28W SKUs or the Hawk Point chips which feature up to 16 TOPs of AI Compute.

Just saw a new article relating to AMD's new Ryzen AI 9 365, and Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. I know everyone is excited about the Snapdragon Elite chips, but I've never been more impressed at a simple laptop chip in a while. If there was ever a desire for an upgraded mainboard for the AMD Framework laptops, these new chips should be it.

Feb 6, 2024 · For now its only on CPU, and I have thought about getting it to work on my GPU, but honesty I'm more interested in getting it to work on the NPU. I have a laptop with AMD R9 7940HS which has a built in NPU. I have already used it with demos that AMD provided, but that was on Windows.

May 6, 2024 · the AI engine is just an optimised "CPU cores" to use when running AI workloads. just like if you need to do simple math, the dedicated arithmetic logic unit would be used. doing graphics use GPU cores, or ray tracing cores in various devices. they are just more optimised/faster at processing these single tasks than the main CPU, at the cost of being useless at any other task.
