The star wars timeline is thousands of years long. They can tell star wars stories in ANY era they want, and create whole new eras. Heck if they wanted they could fast forward 300 years to when the events of the sequel's are a distant memory, and focus on the story of Mandolorian Grogu.

The sequels have a big problem with explaining far too little in favour of driving forwards to the next big action sequence. Rey is not as big of problem with these films as this. TFA should've been used as a way to explain a lot of backstory to what the heck has been going on in the Star Wars galaxy these last 30 years.

I too am a massive Star Wars fan, however, I cannot seem to understand all the dislike and hate Rey gets as a character. The Mary Sue argument is pretty invalid although a bit understandable. Based on the definition of a "Mary Sue" and how many people argue Rey is one, one could also say Kylo Ren/Ben is a Mary sue as well.

May 6, 2022 · The OT is arguably the best trilogy of all time. The sequels are in the same class as the prequels. Great for their time but over all if they weren’t in the Star Wars universe they be forgotten. And I guess that’s fine. Star Wars is what it is because of the UNIVERSE not the story.
