Thousands of shows will take place across the capital in August as the Fringe Festival and Edinburgh International Festival get under way.

The Chancellor vowed the UK Government will seize the ‘huge potential and opportunities that Scotland has to offer’.

Baroness Jacqui Smith said the Government will ‘not tolerate the silencing of academics or students who voice legitimate views’.
