Ferrari and Porsche proved why they are legend. But Detroiters Penske and Cadillac got very close to 24 Hour Le Mans glory.

It wasn't over for Robert Kubica after his horrific incident, as he still had a championship to win with Ferrari.

"Le Mans is a jewel," Oliver Gavin, a five-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner, told ABC News. "There's a lot of pressure, a lot of mental strain plus the physical toll ... it can be a really intense in the car. Your senses are overloaded with everything you're feeling and seeing."

Could NASCAR be considering another attempt in the 24 Hours of Le Mans? NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon hinted on The Today Show that the possibility of a return to France is not out of the question.

At 4pm local time today, 62 cars will cross the start-line of the Circuit de la Sarthe, outside the French city of Le Mans, for the 93rd running of the most famous endurance race in the world.

As the newest and least competitive car, the Valkyrie gets the biggest break, with a minimum weight of just 2,271 lbs (1,030 kg) and a maximum power of 697 hp (520 kW). The Toyota GR010—which won the race in 2021 and 2022—can also deploy 697 hp but at a minimum weight of 2,321 lbs (1,052 kg), more than any other car in the class.

Cadillac's pole is the shot heard 'round the automotive world as the brand seeks to join Ford, Porsche, Ferrari as champs of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
