The museum also displayed paintings of Pokémon, including Pikachu and Snorlax, which were dispersed among van Gogh’s self portraits and famous sunflowers.
Van Gogh painted several versions of Sunflowers while living in Arles, France, but the LEGO set is based on a version from 1889 that hangs in the Van Gogh Museum.
The brooding black birds aren't the only shared subjects that the two artists depict. One of Van Gogh's most famous inspirations — sunflowers — also appear in Kiefer's works.
