PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Alex Ovechkin scored his 879th career goal to move within 16 of breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goals record and the Washington Capitals beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 on Thursday night.

With Washington back in front, Charlie Lindgren had to come up with some key stops, and he did just that, flashing the glove and showcasing his finesse and athleticism with a big pad save in the final seconds to secure the win. He finished the night with 19 saves on 22 shots for his 50th win as a member of the team.
