Firefighters battling devastating wildfires in Southern California hope a reprieve from powerful winds this weekend can help them contain the disaster that has scorched more than 35,000 acres and killed at least 11 people.

As the carnage from multiple blazes continues, weather agencies announced Friday that 2024 was officially the hottest year ever for Earth.

Gusty winds coming from the north and northeast in LA are expected to return on Sunday, which could start as many as three Santa Ana wind events in the upcoming week.
