Abdul Carter wanted to put his 1.000 batting average on the line. The electric rookie was disappointed Saturday that he got to play just six snaps with the starting Giants defense in his NFL debut. And that’s about all there was to be bummed about after he generated three quarterback pressures on his three pass rushes.

Carter has come out of Penn State as the talk of Giants camp this fall. He’s impressing teammates with his talents rushing off the edge, and he quickly made waves in his first preseason action against one of the league’s most veteran tackles.

A large part of the reason why the Giants are expected to make a leap this year is the play of their defensive line, which quietly turned into a formidable unit last season and added rookie Abdul Carter out of Penn State in the first round of the NFL Draft.
