Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts has been ruled out of the two-game Tokyo Series against the Chicago Cubs because of an illness, manager Dave Roberts said Monday. Per Roberts, Betts has lost "close to 15 pounds" due to the illness.

Manager Dave Roberts said eight-time All-Star Mookie Betts might fly back to the United States before the team in an effort to rest and prepare for the domestic opener on March 27.

The star has lost weight from a lingering virus that could jeopardize his availability for the Dodgers’ regular-season games Tuesday and Wednesday in Tokyo.
