The Kremlin says U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed Iran, Ukraine and other issues by phone, their sixth publicly disclosed chat since Trump returned to the White House.

The president repeatedly said on the campaign trail that he would bring an end to the war in the first 24 hours of his second term.

While the call did not result in any sort of ceasefire, the fact that both presidents were willing to reaffirm their interest in dialogue over confrontation is an encouraging sign.
