The Vikings and quarterback Sam Howell have made things official. Minnesota announced on Monday that Howell has passed his physical with the organization, completing the trade that sent him to the NFC North club from Seattle.

The Minnesota Vikings have a back-up quarterback for the 2025 season, announcing they've traded for Sam Howell. The move means J.J. McCarthy is the clear-cut starter for the 2025 season, coming off a torn meniscus last year.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Vikings got Howell for a pick swap, as they sent the No. 142 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft to the Seahawks for Howell and the No. 172 overall pick in the fifth round.
