The Detroit Red Wings made a series of depth signings Tuesday during the first day of free agency, players who’ll be competing for the last couple of roster spots or assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins. The Red Wings inked defensemen Jacob Bernard-Docker and Ian Mitchell, as well as left wing John Leonard, all for one year.

The Red Wings didn't land any big names, but they improved their depth during the start of unrestricted free agency.

The former Boston Bruins forward signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings worth $1 million with bonuses added in, NHL insider Frank Seravalli reported. Van Riemsdyk spent the 2024-25 season with the Columbus Blue Jackets and scored 16 goals with 20 assists in 71 games.
