Dozens of cars crashed in multiple pileups on an icy Interstate 70 as winter weather hit Colorado on Sunday morning.
DENVER — The Denver metro saw its first measurable snowfall of the season on Saturday morning. Two tenths of an inch was recorded at Denver International Airport, where Denver's official weather records are recorded.
Denver could get two rounds of snow over the weekend, said Denver7 Chief Meteorologist Lisa Hidalgo, with the first system rolling into the city late Friday into early Saturday.
A few flakes are possible in Denver weather while the high country is expected to get several inches of snow in some areas on Sunday, benefiting ski areas but possibly making for slick roads.
As of Monday, November 17, Denver hadn’t recorded a snowfall…although that’s still over three weeks shy of the record set in 2021, when the city didn’t see snow until December 10. Early forecasts for the week show chances of rain on Thursday and Friday, but right now temperatures aren’t expected to be cold enough for snow to fall.
A trailing low pressure system will bring snow back the Mountain West from Sunday into Monday as it dives from Oregon to New Mexico. I-70, I-15, I-84, and I-80 could see snow accumulating on Sunday, causing slow downs to post-Thanksgiving travel.
The first snow of the season finally came down in Denver weather, but the metro area for the most part saw less than an inch. Meanwhile, some mountain areas got a good dose of up to nearly a foot of much-needed snow.
