The Boston Bruins and captain Brad Marchand were not able to work out an extension before the NHL trade deadline, which led to the team sending the veteran left wing to the Florida Panthers just ahead of Friday’s 3 p.

But in his first presser as a Panther, he showed no bitterness to Sweeney or the Bruins. In fact, it was quite the opposite reaction in a moment that was equal parts emotion and pragmatism. He also lavished praise on Sweeney, who has been taking plenty of heat here for trading a player whose No. 63 will be raised to the Garden rafters some day.

Brad Marchand’s first morning skate as a member of the Florida Panthers on Tuesday happened at the place he called home for the last 16 years — TD Garden. The Bruins traded Marchand to the Panthers just before last Friday’s NHL trade deadline.
