While the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Altadena is still standing, 30 of the church's families were displaced after their homes were destroyed. Now, the community is working to help them.

LOS ANGELES - One of the surviving churches in Altadena is back open to parishioners one month after the devastating wildfire. Metropolitan Baptist Church held its first service last Sunday and a community giveaway on Friday.

Metropolitan Baptist Church in Altadena survived the Eaton Fire, and is now working to help the community rebuild.

Parishioner Bob Schaper tells the story of finding the bell in the rubble, which for the last 50 years has chimed at the start of services. It last rang on Sunday, Jan. 5.

The stone and stucco estate sustained some damage during the blaze, but remained relatively untouched.
