Despite heavy campaigning by U.S. President Donald Trump for the prestigious recognition, the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for her democracy advocacy in the Latin American nation.
María Corina Machado, a Venezuelan opposition leader who has worked to restore democracy to her country, won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday.
Ms. Machado has urged President Trump to help oust Venezuela’s autocrat, Nicolás Maduro, and to back the result of an election that independent monitors say Mr. Maduro stole.
